Education Sector Case Study: Dell Storage Migration and Network Upgrade
Since upgrading their storage and networking environment, the College has reported a massive fourfold increase in performance instantly.
Esher College, an Ofsted “Outstanding” sixth form with 1,900 students, needed to upgrade its legacy Dell storage and networking infrastructure to support growing data demands from video editing, music production, and other data-rich courses. The college’s legacy Dell EqualLogic storage arrays were reaching capacity and struggling with performance, making storage management increasingly difficult and unsustainable for future growth.
The College needed to find a solution to immediately alleviate the daily management headache that they were experiencing, and required a solution that could easily scale in the future to accommodate growth.
The Dell solution supplied by Krome included Dell Edge and Core Networking, along with a new Dell SC5020 Storage array with 40TB of raw storage, with the College currently using just over half of the available space. As the academic year progresses, the data requirements will increase. The College now has a solution that will simply scale as and when required without any disruption, downtime or performance issues.

With student numbers and file sizes increasing, Esher College faced capacity and performance issues with its existing storage. The legacy Dell EqualLogic systems were no longer being developed, and managing storage had become a constant challenge for the IT team. The college required a scalable, high-performance solution to ensure reliable access to resources and support future expansion.

The new Dell Storage upgrade provided:

- 10Gb networking throughout the campus for high-speed access
- Dell PowerEdge servers and Pro Deploy Professional Services
- Efficient use of RAID for optimal performance, capacity, and redundancy

The system is now scalable for future growth, and students can edit HD and 4K videos anywhere on campus.
