Disaster Recovery Case Study: National Car Parks

Overview

Strengthening business continuity and data resilience through a scalable SAN and disaster recovery solution.

National Car Parks (NCP) is the UK’s leading provider of parking services, operating more than 700 locations and supporting 3,500 employees who rely on fast, consistent access to business-critical data.

As data volumes continued to grow, the company’s existing direct-attached storage approach became inefficient and difficult to manage. Backup processes were time-consuming, recovery times were slow, and the absence of a comprehensive disaster recovery strategy created risks around downtime and data loss.

Krome Technologies was engaged to design and implement a resilient, centralised storage and disaster recovery solution. This disaster recovery case study highlights how Krome helped NCP improve data protection, streamline operations and support business continuity.

“NCP have worked with Krome on a number of infrastructure projects, their product knowledge and technical ability has been invaluable to me in the recommendation of this, and subsequent solutions.”

SAN Infrastructure & DR Solution

As part of this storage virtualisation case study, Krome implemented a Dell SAN solution across NCP’s two data centres, centralising storage and enabling real-time data replication between sites.

The Dell infrastructure replaced fragmented storage systems with a unified platform, providing continuous protection of business‑critical data. Automated snapshots and replication significantly reduced reliance on manual backup processes while improving recovery times in the event of failure.

The scalable Dell SAN architecture enables rapid expansion without disruption to end users, while thin provisioning ensures efficient use of storage capacity and cost control. Together with server virtualisation, the solution has delivered a highly available and resilient IT environment.

Key Project Highlights / Benefits

  • Centralised SAN infrastructure replacing inefficient storage systems
  • Improved disaster recovery with near real‑time data replication
  • Significant reduction in backup administration time
  • Increased system uptime and resilience
  • Scalable platform supporting future growth
  • Cost savings through simplified deployment and thin provisioning

Business Profile

A UK-wide parking services provider operating over 700 locations, employing approximately 3,500 staff and managing large volumes of operational data.

Business Challenge

An inefficient, decentralised storage environment with manual backup processes and no robust disaster recovery capability created risks around downtime, slow data recovery and increasing operational complexity.
