Virtual Desktop Infrastructure VDI Case Study: Local Pensions Partnership Authority

Overview

Improving performance, scalability and reliability of a virtual desktop environment to support organisational growth.

The London Pensions Fund Authority (LPFA), now known as Local Pensions Partnership Authority (LPPA), is a major public sector pension provider, serving over 200 employers and more than 80,000 members, with assets exceeding £4.6 billion. Supporting a growing operation across multiple locations, LPPA required a flexible IT infrastructure capable of scaling alongside its expansion plans.

Following the introduction of a new offsite location in Hertfordshire, LPPA implemented a Citrix VDI solution to provide users with access to core applications and services across its network. However, after deployment, the organisation required specialist support to optimise performance, improve reliability and ensure the environment could meet future demands.

Krome Technologies was engaged to provide expert support and consultancy. This VDI support case study highlights how Krome enhanced LPPA’s virtual infrastructure, improving efficiency, resilience and long‑term scalability.

Citrix VDI Optimisation & Infrastructure Support

As part of this Citrix VDI case study, Krome conducted a comprehensive review of LPPA’s virtual desktop environment, identifying areas for improvement in performance and system configuration.

Krome implemented a series of enhancements, including a full rebuild of the hypervisor, firmware updates and improved load balancing across servers. A more resilient architecture was introduced, incorporating active‑active servers and a failover solution to enhance stability and minimise service interruptions.

In addition to optimising the VDI platform, Krome provided broader infrastructure support, assisting with SAN replication and disaster recovery planning to ensure business continuity. Proactive health checks and ongoing support enabled LPPA to manage its IT environment more effectively while supporting future growth.
