The Westgate School is a secondary academy in Slough supporting over 1,000 pupils and 140 staff, all of whom rely on IT systems every day to support teaching, learning and school operations.

As technology use increased across classrooms and administrative services, the school’s network became more complex and more critical. Unplanned downtime and reactive issue management were beginning to impact the learning environment, placing pressure on the school’s IT team.

Following consultation with Krome Technologies, Westgate implemented the Paessler PRTG Network Monitoring solution. This PRTG case study highlights how proactive monitoring provided the school with early visibility into issues, allowing problems to be resolved before users were affected.

PRTG Network Monitoring Solution

Krome deployed and configured a Paessler PRTG Network Monitoring solution tailored to the needs of The Westgate School’s busy education environment.

PRTG was implemented with customised alerting to ensure the IT team was only notified when intervention was genuinely required, avoiding unnecessary noise while maintaining full visibility of the network. Automatic discovery enabled rapid coverage of core infrastructure, virtual servers and critical services.

The solution now provides proactive monitoring across the school’s entire IT estate, giving the IT manager visibility and control both on‑site and remotely via the PRTG mobile app. Issues are identified and resolved behind the scenes, protecting teaching time and ensuring a consistent user experience for staff and pupils.
