Overview
Optimising storage and virtual infrastructure to improve resilience, performance and availability across a global pharmaceutical organisation.
Otsuka Pharmaceutical is a global healthcare company operating in over 25 countries, employing more than 42,000 people and delivering critical pharmaceutical products and services worldwide. Its European operations rely on highly available IT systems to support business‑critical applications and supply chain processes.
Following investment in a Dell SAN and VMware virtualised environment, Otsuka began experiencing instability and service interruptions across its UK and European infrastructure. The system was not performing as expected, impacting availability and creating operational risk.
Krome Technologies was engaged to provide independent consultancy and resolve the issues. This storage and virtualisation case study highlights how Krome stabilised, optimised and transformed Otsuka’s environment into a high‑performing, resilient platform.
“Krome Technologies are a superior technical consultancy partner; I now consider them as an extension of my team.”
Otsuka | Head of European IT ServicesStorage Optimisation & Virtualisation Rebuild
As part of this virtualisation optimisation case study, Krome conducted a full audit of Otsuka’s storage and VMware environment, identifying configuration issues that were causing instability and performance challenges.
Krome worked rapidly to stabilise the infrastructure, reconfiguring the existing Dell SAN and VMware environment to ensure optimal performance. Following the initial remediation, the solution was further enhanced through a full rebuild and upgrade, including firmware updates, VMware upgrades and expansion of the storage estate.
To strengthen resilience, Krome implemented VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM), delivering a comprehensive disaster recovery solution. This enabled automated failover to a secondary site, ensuring business‑critical applications remained available and reducing downtime in the event of system failure.
