Overview
Delivering a 21st‑century learning environment through large‑scale learning technology deployment across a new further education campus.
West Kent College, now operating as North Kent College, is a major further education provider that, at the time of the project, supported approximately 12,000 full‑ and part‑time students. When the college secured government funding to build a brand‑new campus, known as Campus 21, it recognised that education technology would be central to delivering a modern, flexible learning environment.
The college wanted to completely rethink how information and learning technology (ILT) was used to support teaching and learning. Lecturers needed access to consistent, reliable classroom technology, while students required greater access to devices and digital resources across the campus. With limited internal IT resources, West Kent College required a trusted partner capable of delivering and integrating a wide range of education technologies at scale.
Krome Technologies was appointed as a single technology delivery partner, responsible for sourcing, installing and integrating all IT, ILT and audiovisual technologies across the new campus. This education technology case study highlights how Krome delivered a complex, campus‑wide deployment within challenging timescales, helping the college achieve its vision for 21st‑century learning.
“We could not have managed a project on this scale if we had had to deal with multiple suppliers. Krome was a real asset to us.”
IT Services Manager, West Kent CollegeCampus‑Wide Learning Technology Deployment
As part of this learning technology case study, Krome worked closely with West Kent College to design and deliver a fully integrated education technology environment across the new campus.
The solution included the supply and installation of hundreds of PCs, laptops and netbooks, interactive SMART boards, digital signage, video walls and supporting management systems. Innovative classroom technologies were introduced to enable more flexible teaching styles, improve student engagement and maintain consistency across learning spaces.
Krome provided dedicated on‑site project management and worked flexibly alongside building contractors to overcome delays and access challenges typical of large new‑build projects. Despite compressed timelines and unforeseen issues, all learning technology was installed, tested and ready for the start of term, ensuring a seamless transition for students and teaching staff.
