New Copilot Business Plan for SMBs with less than 300 users.
From 1st December 2025, Microsoft is officially launching Microsoft 365 Copilot Business – a new Copilot plan set to make enterprise-grade AI far more accessible to small and mid-sized organisations.
For many smaller organisations, the biggest barrier to adopting AI has been cost. Copilot Business finally removes that obstacle.
Microsoft 365 Copilot Business delivers the same Copilot capabilities that larger enterprises experience, but at a lower price point and with some attractive launch promotions.
If you’ve been curious about Copilot but unsure whether it made sense for your SMB business, this new plan is very likely the turning point.
What is Microsoft Copilot Business?
Copilot Business is Microsoft’s new AI add-on designed specifically for SMB organisations using the Microsoft 365 Business suite (Business Basic, Standard, or Premium), with a maximum of 300 users.
It delivers the full Microsoft Copilot experience, with the same capabilities available to enterprise customers, including:
- In Word – draft proposals, blogs, reports and emails in minutes instead of hours.
- In Excel – analyse and explain data, build formulas, create scenarios and summaries.
- In Outlook – summarise long threads, suggest replies, tidy your inbox.
- In Teams – auto-generate meeting notes, actions, and follow-ups.
- In PowerPoint – turn a document or a prompt into a slide deck with structure and speaker notes.
Copilot Business uses the same Copilot engine as the standard Microsoft 365 Copilot licence, so you’re not getting a “lite” or cut-down version; you’re getting the full feature set, just packaged and priced for the SMB market.
Who is Copilot Business for?
If you’re an SMB aiming to streamline operations, improve output, or reduce time spent on repetitive tasks, Copilot Business is aimed at you.
Microsoft is very clear about the target audience:
Organisations with fewer than 300 users.
Already on Microsoft 365 Business plans (Basic, Standard, or Premium).
Wanting enterprise-grade AI without enterprise-grade licensing complexity or price.
Licensing & Prerequisites
To use Microsoft 365 Copilot Business, you’ll need:
- A qualifying Microsoft 365 Business licence (e.g. Business Basic, Standard, or Premium) for each user.
- A Copilot Business add-on licence on top of that.
Copilot Business:
- Is sold as an add-on, not a standalone productivity suite.
- Is capped at 300 seats per tenant.
To make adoption as seamless as possible, Microsoft is launching the following bundles in addition to the standalone Copilot Business SKUs:
- Microsoft 365 Business Basic + Copilot Business.
- Microsoft 365 Business Standard + Copilot Business.
- Microsoft 365 Business Premium + Copilot Business.
Alongside these SKUs, Microsoft are introducing a special promotional offer for Microsoft Purview Suite, bringing advanced data protection to Business Premium customers at an exceptional price.
Each bundle combines familiar productivity tools with built-in AI to simplify purchasing and deployment for SMBs. All of these products will be available on the price list starting on December 1, 2025.
How to get Copilot Business Ready before 1 December
If you’re thinking “OK, this sounds promising – what next?” Here’s a simple Copilot Business readiness checklist:
- Check your licensing: Confirm you’re using Microsoft 365 Business plans and identify your initial pilot group.
- Tidy up your data: Copilot works best when your SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive structures are clean, and permissions are accurate.
- Think about security & compliance: Ensure MFA, Conditional Access, and data governance (e.g., Purview labelling) are configured correctly so Copilot respects your boundaries.
- Start with a small pilot: Launch with a small, mixed group of users to test value, gather feedback, and build internal champions.
- Train your users (and set expectations): Copilot is powerful, but users will get far more from it with basic prompting guidance and clear expectations.
