Krome’s Westgate School Implementation Nominated for Public Sector Datacentre Project of the Year

Krome’s implementation of an end-to-end virtualised infrastructure solution at The Westgate School has made the shortlist for the Public Sector Datacentre Project of the Year at the Datacentre Solutions Awards 2012.

The Datacentre Solutions Awards reward the products, projects and services as well as honour companies and teams operating in data centre fields. The Westgate School Project has been nominated for the Public Sector Datacentre Project of the Year, recognising the achievement of the end user, supplier and Vendors contribution.

Working with Krome the school has invested in an end-to-end solution from Dell, including storage and backup, virtualised servers and desktop PCs. Krome transitioned the school from physical servers to a fully virtualised infrastructure based on VMware vSphere. It has also implemented two Dell EqualLogic PS Series iSCSI storage arrays with built-in replication functionality. This new virtual server environment now runs all of the school’s new Dell OptiPlex Desktop PCs as well as its critical applications, including SIMS school management software, Equitrac print solutions, cashless catering system and remote access facilities and Microsoft Exchange 2010.

The virtualised solution enables The Westgate School to plan the growth of data consumption in advance and allocate resources to servers based on those plans. At the same time, the solution still provides the flexibility to allocate resources quickly should an application unexpectedly threaten to overload a server.

“We have been incredibly impressed with the solution delivered by Krome and the technology from Dell. It offers the school an uncomplicated and scalable infrastructure, which is exactly what we asked for”, explains the IT Manager at The Westgate School. “It is encouraging to hear that this project has been recognised for the public sector Datacentre award and that The Westgate School is being showcased for having industry leading technology.”
